This coaching tip continues our 8 part series on simple strategies for maximizing your student’s ability to learn. These tips come from a lecture by Debra Bell. The sixth simple strategy is another one that’s already a key part in our program: students learn best when the lesson is matched with their skill level.

Driver Ed in a Box® has always been a mastery based course, which is one of the basic principles that helps Driver Ed in a Box® produce collision-free drivers. As you go through the course with the teen, as you train in the vehicle, use those skill checklists for each are of in-vehicle instruction. They are your guide to gauging your student’s skill level. How do you know when your student is ready for their first lesson in the neighborhood? When they’ve mastered all the skills on the Parking Lot checklist. When you student has mastered all the skills on the Parking Lot checklist, then you know their skill level is at the point where they’re ready for the first lesson in the neighborhood. Keep the lessons on par with your student’s abilities, and you’ll have calm, confident, productive lessons.
