I want to talk to you today about how we can all accept responsibility for what happens to us in our daily lives. Specifically, let’s talk about accepting responsibility in driving and driver education, since that’s what we do here at Driver Ed in a Box®: with your help, we produce responsible, collision-free drivers.
If you’re driving around in the parking lot at the mall, for example, and some clown (metaphorically speaking) comes speeding around the corner and hits your vehicle, who’s responsible? Well, luckily, your insurance company will most likely put the blame on the metaphorical clown and you’ll be off the hook for damages. However, this would be the time to take a look at your own responsibility in what had happened.
Whether we are at fault in a collision, or not, if we accept a certain responsibility for everything that happens to us, then we can then examine the chain of events that led us there and perhaps discover how we can avoid such a thing in the future. A clown hit my car; what did I do to get myself in that situation? What didn’t I do to avoid it? By accepting responsibility for what happened, you begin to ask the right questions to avoid a repeat incident in the future; because clowns are everywhere, and those big red rubber shoes are always making their accelerators stick.
