Independence Day has come and gone this month, but it is such a landmark holiday, we’re going to keep in the spirit of things with this week’s coaching tip. Benjamin Franklin said “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” For Mr. Franklin and his fellow signers of the Declaration of Independence, these words had a heavy meaning, since they all faced death if their fight for freedom failed.

There’s another quote you hear often in Driver Ed in a Box®: “Practice like your life depends on it…because it does!” Just like Franklin and his fellow freedom fighters , it , it pays to have an all or nothing attitude. When you have a goal in mind, in this case collision-free driving, it helps if you attack that goal with the attitude that failure is not an option. And really, it isn’t. Failing to become a collision-free driver means having a collision; and that collision could be the one that kills you.

In the spirit of independence, attack your goal of collision-free driving with the tenacity of Benjamin Franklin.

Watch this video to see me, Patrick Barrett, the Driver Education Guru, talk more about the importance of the “all in” attitude.
