Independence Day has come and gone this month, but it is such a landmark holiday, we’re going to keep in the spirit of things with this week’s coaching tip. Thomas Paine said “It is the faculty of the human mind to become what it contemplates, and to act in unison with its object.” The message we can take away from this quote that we can apply to driver education is the power of focus.

Fix your focus on your intention to get where you’re going safely. This focus will bring up in your mind all the questions you need to ask yourself before you get into a vehicle. Is this trip necessary? What are the 6 conditions? What is the best route to take on this trip? Too easily we can forget about things we are not focused on (I know I do!), and it is important to keep a clear and focused mind when you are getting behind the wheel of the car. Imagine and create in your mind’s eye a safe and collision-free journey, and your mind will fill in the path to get you there, or at least recognize the gaps in your training to let you know where you need more practice.
