We are on Part 3 of our series on the 5 Parts of a Successful Lesson, but we’re still discussing the second part of a successful lesson, and that is introducing the new learning. Last week, we talked about how you can introduce the new lesson by building on the previous lesson. Today’s tip on introducing the new learning is how you can use the classroom materials to reinforce the new lesson.
Before the in-vehicle lesson, your student will have read the relevant material in the text, taken some quizzes, and watched the video(s). When you introduce the new lesson in the vehicle, you have a great opportunity to review with your teen what they read and watched earlier .
Ask if your student has any questions about what he/she read, answer them as best you can. If your student missed any of the questions on the quizzes, go over them together.
Talk to your student about the video(s) you watched. The videos offer a pretty good guideline of what your own in-vehicle lesson can go like, so talking about the videos you’ve watched when you’re introducing the new lesson you’re about to practice is good preparation. Talk about which parts of the video seemed like they prepared you the most, and which parts weren’t quite clear to you.
