I’ve talked about responsibility in driver education before, and I’m going to talk about it today, and even next week as well. Today, my focus is on the responsibility of the student while taking driver education.
It’s true that the student is not responsible for anywhere near as much as the instructor, but nevertheless, it’s important for the student to understand that she still has some very important responsibilities. One of those very important responsibilities is to ask questions. If things went perfectly, then the parent has been observant enough so that their teen is never put into a situation they’re not ready for, or don’t completely understand. However, when was the last time something ever went completely perfect? If the student ends up in a situation where they don’t know what to do, or if something was unclear about the instructions given, that student needs to ask questions. No question is stupid, it just lets us know that there was something you didn’t fully understand. It lets us know that we need to be more clear, or that we need to pull over and talk about the topic. We’re not mind readers. If you don’t know, ask!
