Is it hot enough for you yet? My apologies to our clients in Colorado and New Mexico. This is not a reference to the tragic effects of the fires you and your communities may be experiencing. We pray that you and your families and the fire fighters safely get through that ordeal. What we’re talking about here is the excessive heat and humidity – the triple digit heat and the heat indexes that are even higher.
When you practice in this kind of heat, here are a few tips:
- Do your demonstrations in the shade.
- When you pull into a parking lot or the side of the road to discuss something that just happened, also look for a shady spot.
- Avoid frequently turning the vehicle on and off. Batteries in excessive heat often fail.
- Gas up late at night or very early in the morning. Fuel expands in the heat and most service stations don’t have the new pumps that compensate for this.
- Take frequent breaks.
- Check tire pressure only when they are cold (usually early in the morning before the sun heats up the tire) and keep the tire properly inflated.
- Carry a few liters of water with you so you can stay hydrated.
