How to Prepare for your Scheduled DPS Road Test

Thank you for scheduling your road test. Appointment details have been sent to you by email. If you don’t receive it within several minutes, check your spam or junk email folder.

Below are the things you must do to prepare for your road test appointment:

Everyone taking the road test will need:

  • A valid Texas Learner License Permit
  • The vehicle you are using for the test, along with:
    a. Valid inspection/registration sticker (temporary plate will
    suffice for the registration)
    b. License plates (both front & back of vehicle if in TX)
    c. Proof of insurance. (Tester does not have to be listed as
    insured, but may not be listed as EXCLUDED on the
    insurance)

*You may use our Examiner’s vehicle for the road test if you wish.*
*The fee to use our Examiner’s vehicle is $35.*

Additional Paperwork Needed:

Minors & 18 to 24 year old who completed a full Driver Education course:

18 to 24 year old who completed the 6-hr Adult Driver Education course:

Adults 25 & older:

Paperwork is the most common reason for us to not be able to test, so send it in to us ASAP so that we can verify that you have what you need. There will be no refunds for incorrect paperwork on the day of the road test.

After a successful test, we will put the Originals (except for Learner’s License) in an envelope and seal the envelope with tamper proof tape.

The test takes about 12-15 minutes. We will verify the paperwork before the test, inspect the vehicle driven during the test, and after the test, we will complete the paperwork.

Please arrive ten minutes before your scheduled test time. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please let us know at least 72 hours before your appointment by phone, text or email. Appointments cancelled without 72-hours notice will not be refunded. There will be a $65 fee for rescheduling appointments without 72-hours notice.
