We are on Part 2 of our series on the 5 Parts of a Successful Lesson. This is the fourth segment that discusses the second part of a successful lesson, and that is introducing the new learning. Last week, we talked about how you can introduce the new lesson by reviewing the relevant classroom materials with your student. Today’s tip on introducing the new learning is how you can review the commentary terms in the new lesson and make it a little fun while you’re at it.

Whenever you start a new lesson in the vehicle, there’s most likely going to be some new commentary to go along with the new learning. Your student has already been introduced to the commentary when they read the classroom material, but it’s still a good idea to talk about the commentary and what it means as you introduce the new lesson.

You can do this a few ways. You can ask your student what new commentary terms the two of you will be using today. You can tell (remind) your student what new commentary terms you’ll be using. You can have a bit of fun with it, too, though. For example, you can start the first Light Traffic lesson with “Today’s lesson is brought to you by the term Point of No Return.”

There are lots of options for how you can introduce the new commentary to the new lesson. The only limit on that is your imagination.
